Examining Public Opinion on Today's Safety Priorities

-By Michelle Kobayashi –

We know that U.S. Americans want their local governments to prioritize community safety first. What do residents think are the most important priorities for police and public officials?

National Research Center, Inc. (NRC) recently surveyed a representative, nationwide panel of U.S. residents to examine public opinion of local police services. With guidance from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Executive Session on Police Leadership experts, NRC is developing The National Police Services Survey™ (The NPSS™).  This benchmarking assessment is designed to provide data needed to support a community-centric model of police leadership, and is slated to launch in the summer of 2019. In this presentation, NRC shares highlights from an analysis on this public safety study and The National Citizen Survey™ (The NCS™).

These slides were created by NRC for the 2018 International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Conference in Baltimore, MD.
